Notable featuresThe State Electricity building was one of the first emphatic Art-Deco statements on the Melbourne skyline. Being so close to Flinders Street, and overlooking the river, it, the Herald Sun complex and the APA tower were the three dominant towers of the time. The building is of significance as the headquarters of the elecricity industry which helped to shape the 1930s era, and for some time the building had one of Melbournes first neon signs - the SEC logo.
Recently the radio mast has been removed and the triple stepped massing of the original architecture has been compromised in a 1990s apartment conversion. An extra 2 storeys were added at this time. Despite this and the modernisation of the internals, much of the restrained Art-Deco facade remains intact. HistoryArchitect:
